    On 5 June 1995 Council approved a change in name and status for the Asian Studies Unit in the Faculty of Commerce and Economics and thus the School of Asian Business and Language Studies replaced the Unit from this date (resolution CL95/40). On 23 February 1998 Council gave its approval to a change in name of the school to the School of International Business, effective 1 January 1998 (resolution CL98/15). On 21 June 2004 Council resolved to disestablish the schools of Industrial Relations and Organisational Behaviour and International Business and established a new school, the School of Organisation and Management (resolution CL04/81).     At the 1 August 1990 meeting of the Executive Committee of the Faculty of Commerce & Economics, the Dean advised that the creation of an Asian Studies Unit within the faculty had been approved by the Vice-Chancellor. The Unit was administratively part of the Dean's Unit and was headed by Dr W. R. Purcell. On 5 June 1995 Council approved a change in name and status for the Unit and thus the School of Asian Business and Language Studies replaced the Unit from this date (resolution CL95/40).     Description
    The Faculty of Commerce was formed in principle by Council at its meeting on 12 July 1954 (resolution 431i). The Faculty was then officially launched at the 11th March, 1957 meeting of Council (resolution 57/37). Professor David Culloden Rowan was the first Dean of the Faculty, with the initial schools being Accountancy, Economics and Hospital Administration. The inaugural meeting of the Faculty occurred on 5th June, 1957. In 1986 - 1987 a Committee organised by the Vice-Chancellor conducted a review of the Faculty. As a result, at the Council meeting on 11th July, 1988 the name of the Faculty was altered to the Faculty of Commerce & Economics effective 1 August 1988 (resolution 88/90). On 3 July 2006 Council approved the disestablishment of the Faculty of Commerce & Economics, subject to the approval of the Academic Board. The Faculty was to be amalgamated with the Australian Graduate School of Management to form the new Faculty of Business. The Board approved this on 1 August 2006 (resolution AB06/91) and at the Board's 7 November 2006 meeting, it noted that the Faculty of Commerce & Economics and the Australian Graduate School of Management should be considered to have ceased to have the functions and powers of faculties after [the first Faculty Board meeting of the Faculty of Business on Thursday 23 November 2006]' (resolution AB06/139).     The creation of the Faculty of Law was approved by Council on 13th July, 1964, under resolution 64/137. On 24 January 1966, the foundation chair of Law was created, with the apointee to also become dean of the faculty (resolution 66/15i). On 8 September 1969 Council appointed Professor John Halden Wootten to this position (resolution 69/155), with classes being offered from 1971. Originally the Faculty did not incorporate any Schools, but this was altered by Council on 24th January, 1972 (resolution 72/10) with the formation of the School of Law, which was co-extensive with the Faculty. The inaugural meeting of the Faculty took place on 9th February, 1971. In 2013, administered by Dean Professor David Dixon, the Faculty was comprised of the School of Law, the Australasian Legal Information Institute, the Diplomacy Training Program, the Social Justice Project and nine Centres.     This series consists of the subject files of the Dean of the Faculty of Arts. The material is mainly typed and contained in manilla folders, which are arranged in alphabetical order by subject. Most of the material relates to individual Schools within the Faculty, especially personnel records of academic staff. The material was received by the Archives from the Office of the Dean of the Faculty of Arts. The files relate to the Academic Planning Committee, Alumni Association, Asian Studies, Australian Historical Association Conference, Committee Enquiring into Procedures for Selecting the Dean of Arts, Credit Point System, Executive Committee, General Files, M.A. And Ph.D., Metric Conversion, Overseas Study for Language Students, Staff, Student Affairs, Writers-in-Residence Scheme, Administration, School of Drama, School of English, School of French, School of German, School of History, School of History and Philosophy of Science, Language Laboratory, School of Philosophy, School of Political Science, School of Russian, School of Sociology and the School of Spanish and Latin American Studies. Three cassette tapes of are also included in this series. Each tape is a recording of an interview with Mr Ulman and the Head of the School of Russian. Two of these recordings are in Russian; the other is in both English and Russian. These are located in the AV Collection.

    The Contemporary Asia Centre was created within the Faculty of Arts at the 4 June 1986 meeting of the Vice Chancellor's Advisory Committee. The aim of the Centre was to co-ordinate and develop research and teaching across the whole range of Asian Studies. Professor John Ingleson was appointed as the Centre's first director. On 10 December 1990 Council changed the name of the faculty to the Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences (resolution CL90/108ii). The disestablishment of the Centre, among a number of other inactive centres, was recommended at the 9 October 1991 meeting of the Vice-Chancellor's Advisory Committee.     This series consists of the student resumes / yearbooks of the Australian Graduate School of Management. Each book contains profiles of all students within the graduating class of a particular year, usually including photographs. According to the 1978 issue, the books were producted to provide information on the background of students completing the Master's Program at the end of [this year and] to assist you in your search for qualified employees. From 1987 - 1993 the dating of the books was temporarily changed. Whereas previously the title of the book indicated the year that the students finished studying, during this period it was altered to the year a student's graduation ceremony was held. Consequently, there is no book titled 1987 and two different books titled for 1993, when the system was reversed again. In 1997 - 1998 separate resume booklets were produced entitled Student Resumes - Asian Region that included those students who have a particular interest in working in Asia. In 1999, following AGSM's amalgamation with the University of Sydney's Graudate School of Business, a separate resume book was produced for those students on the Newtown Campus, who were completing degrees begun at the Graduate School of Business in 1998. During 2006, the publications were re-named yearbooks. The dating also changed slightly to cover both Executive MBA students graduating at the end of a year and the full-time MBA students graduating early the following year. In 2009-10 the yearbook was released as a CD ROM only. The contents of the 2009-10 CD have also been copied to the network drive. From 2010-11 the yearbook was released as an online database only available on the Australian School of Business website (http://www.asb.unsw.edu.au/currentstudents/agsmmba/studentresources/careerservices/servicesforemployers/AGSMMBAyearbook/Pages/default.aspx ). A single pdf of all student CVs from the yearbook has been downloaded and stored in TRIM.
