    Description
    On 19 January 1976 Council made the Department of Food Technology into a separate School of Food Technology within the Faculty of Applied Science (resolution 76/10). On 13 May 1985 Council changed the name of the school to the School of Food Science & Technology (resolution 85/54). On 9 September 1985 the school was redesignated the Department of Food Science & Technology and moved to the newly created School of Biological Technologies with effect from 1 January 1986 (resolution 85/96).     Description
    On 9 September 1985 the School of Food Science & Technology was redesignated the Department of Food Science & Technology and moved to the newly created School of Biological Technologies with effect from 1 January 1986 (resolution 85/96). The head of department was Professor Ron Edwards. On 11 July 1988 the School of Biological Technologies was renamed the School of Applied Bioscience (Council resolution 88/85). At the 2 December 1996 meeting of Council the Faculty of Applied Science was disestablished effective 1 July 1997 (resolution CL96/88/4). As a result, from this date the School of Applied Bioscience, including the Department of Food Science & Technology, was transferred to the Faculty of Life Sciences. On 18 Jun, 2001 Council resolved to disestablish the Faculty of Life Sciences and create a new single model Faculty of Science effective from 1 July, 2001- including the Department of Food Science & Technology within the School of Applied Bioscience (resolution CL001/49). On 8 October 2001 Council approved the disestablishment of the School of Applied Bioscience, as well as its two departments of Biotechnology and Food Science & Technology, effective 31 December 2001 (resolution CL001/84c). Staff from the Department of Food Science & Technology were moved to the newly formed School of Chemical Sciences (resolution CL00184/eii).     Description
    On 14 July 1952 Council appointed Dr F. H. Reuter to the position of Associate Professor in Food Technology (resolution 234). When he commenced in this post on 16 July 1952, the Department of Food Technology also came into being within the School of Chemical Engineering in the Faculty of Science (SRF - Food Technology, file 00048296 CN980/102). On 8 November 1954 Council approved the introduction of a full-time degree course in food technology (resolution 518). On 14 May 1956 Council created the Faculty of Technology (resolution 761i) and the School of Chemical Engineering, including the Department of Food Technology, was moved into this faculty. On 9 May 1960, Council changed the name of the faculty to the Faculty of Applied Science (resolution 60/55). On 19 January 1976 Council made the department into a separate School of Food Technology within the Faculty of Applied Science (resolution 76/10). There are threee types of reports included in the series - the first is the original report of the school to the Visiting Committee, the second is this original report bound together with the minutes of the Visiting Committee's meeting, which was then submitted to Council and the third are loose minutes for the Visiting Committee meetings.\r\nThe Archives does not hold any copies of the reports of the school to the Visiting Committee for the years 1979 - 1980, 1987 - 1989 and 1991 onwards or Visiting Committee reports to Council for the years 1969 - 70 or 1987 onwards. Separate copies of the Visiting Committee minutes are only held for the years 1969 - 1970 and 1986.

    The Faculty of Technology was formed by Council on 14th May, 1956 (resolution 761i). This resolution also dictated that the Faculty would be concerned with developments in the Technologies of Fuel, Paint, Plastics and Rubber, and Ceramics and Nuclear Technology. The Faculty, under Professor D. W. Phillips, was initiated with five Schools Chemical Engineering, Mining Engineering & Applied Geology, Metallurgy, Wool Technology and Textile Technology. The first meeting of the Faculty occurred on 29th June, 1956. On 9th May, 1960, Council changed the name of the Faculty to the Faculty of Applied Science (resolution 60/55). At the 2nd December, 1996 meeting of Council the Faculty of Applied Science was disestablished effective 1st July, 1997 (resolution CL96/88/4).     On 9 September 1985 the School of Biological Technologies was created within the Faculty of Applied Science with effect from 1 January 1986 (Council resolution 85/96). It initially had two departments - the Department of Biotechnology and the Department of Food Science & Technology. The first head of school was Professor Ronald Edwards.
