    On 29 January 1990 the Dean and Director of the Australian Graduate School of Management (AGSM) wrote to the Managing Director of Fujitsu Australia Ltd to propose the establishment of a Fujitsu Centre for Management Implications of Information Technology within the AGSM (file 910826). On 16 February 1990 the AGSM Board of Management noted this development (file 890794). On 14 March 1990 the Managing Director of Fujitsu responded to confirm that he had secured the proposed funding of $250 000 per annum and that the Centre could thus proceed In September 1990 Professor Philip Yetton was appointed Executive Director of the Centre (file 910826). The Centre was officially launched on 4 October 1990 and by this time had become known as the Fujitsu Centre for Managing Information Technology in Organisations (file 890794) On 26 August 2002 the Dean and Director of AGSM wrote to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & International) to indicate that the Centre would be closed at the end of 2002 (file 910826).     The Computing Services Department was created in April 1985 within the Division of the Deputy Principal (Planning & Information), as part of a major administrative restructure within the university. Previously the computing function had been split between the Registrar's Division, handling administrative needs via the Data Processing Unit, and the Vice-Chancellor's Unit, servicing academic requirements via the Computing Services Unit. The new department therefore covered within a single area the university's significant computational resources which included over eight major computers (CDC, DEC and Fujitsu), hundreds of terminals and the support of approximately 1000 personal computers. The Department provides a range of information and data processing services including admissions processing, examination results, student records, staff and alumni records, payroll preparation, accounting and library services (1985 UNSW Annual Report, pg 71). It originally included five units - Academic Computing, Administrative Computing, Applications Software, Systems Software and User Services - and was headed by E. H. Dobell. On 1 September 1990 the name of the Division was changed to the Division of the Bursar and Deputy Principal. As part of the Review of Academic & Administrative Computing, undertaken in 1993 - 1994, and approved at the 28 February 1994 Council meeting, the functions of the Computing Services Department were transferred to the newly formed Division of Information Services effective from 1 June 1994.     In 1969 the Australian Government appointed a committee of overseas experts headed by Dr Richard Cyert to advise on the future needs for graduate management in Australia. On 19 January 1970 Council endorsed the beginning of negotiations for the establishment of a national graduate school of business at the university (resolution 70/13). When the Cyert Committee submitted the Report of the Committee of Inquiry into postgraduate education for management in March 1970, it advised that the University of New South Wales was the university best placed to provide the desirable environment for a national business school of the highest quality. In August 1973 the Australian Government gave its agreement for the university to begin preliminary planning for the school and the university accepted the government's offer (10 September 1973 Council resolution 73/185). On 12 November 1973 Council created an interim board of management, who were to be responsible for planning the development of the new school (resolution 73/236). On 11 March 1974 the new school was named the Australian Graduate School of Management (Council resolution 74/24ii). On 11 November 1974 Professor Philip Brown was appointed as the foundation Professor of Management and Director of the Australian Graduate School of Management (Council resolution 74/202). He took up the position on 1 January 1975 and the school began its first classes on 7 March 1977 (SRF - AGSM). On 1 June 1998 Council gave its approval to the merger of the AGSM with the University of Sydney's Graduate School of Business to form a new Australian Graduate School of Management as a joint venture between the two universities, effective from the first academic term in 1999 (resolution 98/38). On 11 November 2005 it was announced that the University of Sydney had decided to cease its participation in the AGSM joint venture with UNSW. Consequently AGSM reverted to being solely owned by UNSW (SRF - AGSM). On 3 July 2006 Council approved the disestablishment of the Australian Graduate School of Management, subject to the approval of the Academic Board. The Faculty was to be amalgamated with the Faculty of Commerce & Economics to form the new Faculty of Business. The Board approved this on 1 August 2006 (resolution AB06/91) and at the Board's 7 November 2006 meeting, it noted that the Faculty of Commerce & Economics and the Australian Graduate School of Management should be considered to have ceased to have the functions and powers of faculties after [the first Faculty Board meeting of the Faculty of Business on Thursday 23 November 2006]' (resolution AB06/139). Thus the AGSM as a business unit ceased operations, although courses under the AGSM brand continued operation after this date within the Faculty of Business.
