    Description
    This series contains the Proceedings of the Asia Young Leaders' Forums of the Asia-Australia Institute. Each item in the series is a paper-bound booklet, containing the proceedings and report of the Asia Young Leader's Forum. The Forum was held annually and (as outlined in the introduction to the 1995 proceedings) was a three-day meeting for merging leaders to examine the issues shaping the region and the challenges for leadership in the early part of the 21st century. It brings together some 120 leaders from Northeast and Southeast Asia and Australia, representing business, politics, government, trade unions, the professions and NGOs. For the 1996 forum, separate booklets on participant profiles and the Korean contribution were also published, while in 1998 a pre-forum briefing booklet was also released.     This series contains the Reports & Programs of the Australia-Indonesia Young Leaders' Dialogue of the Asia-Australia Institute. Each item in the series is a paper-bound booklet, containing the proceedings or programs of the Australia-Indonesia Young Leaders' Dialogue. The Dialogue was held once a year in 2002 and 2003 to (as outlined in the introduction to the 2002 report) develop links among the younger leaders from various walks of life from both [Australia & Indonesia] who can act as a core in developing a more lasting partnership between our two countries. An AAI 2002 report also described it as a private frank discussion for a younger generation of leaders to help built trust and more broadly based and enduring relationships between Australia nd Indonesia (Report to the Reference Group on the Future of the AAI, 5 June 2002, file 2002/3420).     Description
    This series contains the programs of the East Asia Leaders' Dialogue / Coolum Forums of the Asia-Australia Institute. Each item in the series is a paper-bound booklet, containing the programs of the East Asia Leaders' Dialogue / Coolum Forums. The Dialogue / Forum was held (as outlined from the webiste) annually for young leaders from the countries of East Asia..the goal of the forum has been to bring together a select group of influential individuals from the region to candidly exchange views and strategies on regional issues emerging from the economic crisis. The initiative ideally aims to play a role in contributing to greater regional collaboration. In a 2002 report the forum was described as an annual dialogue hosted by the Department of Foreigin Affairs and Trade, co-chaired by the Foreign Ministers of Australia and Thailand and moderated by the AAI's Chairman. When held in Australia it is project managed by the AAI (Report to the Reference Group on the Future of the AAI, 5 June 2002, file 2002/3420).     This series contains the Programs & Profiles of the Malaysia-Australia Dialogue of the Asia-Australia Institute. Each item in the series is a paper-bound booklet, containing the profiles or programs of the Malaysia-Australia Dialogue. The Dialogue was held four times from 1995 - 2000. In the May 1995 AAI Newsletter, it was noted that the aim of the dialogue was to strengthen the relationship between the two countries and to contribute to reducing the possibility of future mis-communication. The Archives only holds items from this series for 1996 and 2000. There are also audio recordings of some parts of the dialogue in series 1442.     This series consists of the correspondence & programs of the Asia Skills Program of the Asia-Australia Institute The material is typed and arranged in a manilla folder in chronological order. According to a 1992 brochure, the Asia Skills Program was a series of intensive short courses designed to provide the knowledge to understand why culture is the 'hard' challenge of working in an Asian country and the skills to handle the major cultural and social problems of working at what is familiar in an unfamiliar culture. The correspondence includes planning and invitations to speakers, as well as some programs for the courses. The Archives does not hold any material in this series for 1994 - 1995 or 1999 - 2001.     This series consists of programs & agreements of the APEC Future Economic Leaders Think Tank, which was project managed by the Asia-Australia Institute The material is typed and arranged in a manilla folder in chronological order. According to the 2001 proposal, the aim of the Think-Tank was to highlight a legitimate and accepted role for Australia as a facilitator of cross-regional networking; a hub for cross-regional research and development projects; and a centre of expertise in a number of key areas to the financial services sector in the Region.     This series contains the Papers & Programs of the Gwinganna Forums of the Asia-Australia Institute. Each item in the series is a paper-bound booklet, containing the proceedings or programs of the Gwinganna Forums. The Forum was held annually and (as outlined in the introduction to the 1998 program) brings together participants from East Asia for a private discussion to determine what is both feasible and desirable for an institution in the Eastern Hemisphere to be able to achieve..the forum takes its name from the Gwinganna Eco-Retreat in Queensland where it was first held. In a 2002 report it was noted that it was conceived to develop personal contact that might help in the management of differences of policy or viewpoint and built lasting relationships (Report to the Reference Group on the Future of the AAI, 5 June 2002, file 2002/3420). The Archives' holdings of this series varies, as for some years the proceedings are held, whereas for others only the programs/participant profiles are available.
