    At a marketing conference in Canberra in June 1962, P J A Fabricus, Marketing Director, Unilever Australia Pty Ltd, proposed that a chair in Marketing be established at an Australian university. This proposal was debated within the University of NSW and at a meeting of the Executive Committee of Council on 17 December 1962 it was decided that a Chair in Marketing should be established within the School of Business Administration so long as the necessary funds could be found from amongst the business community. In April 1963 a Committee was formed, chaired by Mr Warren McDonald, Chairman of the Commonwealth Banking Corporation, with the aim of raising 60,000 pounds. This was achieved during August 1963 (SRF - Marketing) and on 11 November 1963 Council approved the establishment of a Chair in Marketing in the School of Business Administration within the Faculty of Commerce (resolution 63/194). In March 1965 Professor J B Schneider, formerly Chair of Marketing at San Francisco State College, was appointed as the inaugural Chair (resolution 65/5). On 24 January 1966 Council approved the establishment of a Department of Marketing within the Faculty of Commerce (resolution 66/24). In 1966 the university introduced a more comprehensive program in marketing of three courses for those in business and government already engaged in all aspects of marketing, marketing research and related fields. The program consisted of one part time course and two short residential courses. (SRF - Marketing) In March 1967 Professor Schneider resigned after only two years service and returned to the US. (SRF - Marketing) Roger Layton, Senior Lecturer in Economics, had been appointed Professor of Marketing within the Faculty of Commerce (resolution 66/183) in November of the previous year. A marketing specialisation within the Bachelor of Commerce degree was taught for the first time in 1967 (UNSW Calendar 1967 B208-9; UNSW Calendar 1968 B 166-7). On 11 May 1970 as part of the administrative arrangements necessary for the establishment of the Institute of Social Research, the Department of Marketing was re-designated as the School of Marketing (resolution 70/75 (viii)). At a meeting of the Professorial Board on 1 April 1975 it was resolved that the Department of Behavioural Science, formerly situated with the Graduate School of Business, be placed within the School of Marketing (resolution of Professorial Board 75/40). However just over a year later on 14 July 1976 the Vice-Chancellor's Advisory Committee decided that the department should be removed from the School of Marketing and designated as a separate unit within the Faculty of Commerce (S261; UNSW Annual Report 1976: 10). During 1988 approval was given for a double major in Marketing and Hospitality Management within the BCom. The first group of students were enrolled in 1989. The course was designed to meet the demand for managers in the hotel, resort, and restaurant industries (UNSW Annual Report 1988: 35). On 18 June 2007 Council noted the renaming of the Faculty of Business to the Australian School of Business at UNSW, as approved by the Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor and President of the Academic Board (CL07/33). On 2 July 2014 the Vice-Chancellor's Advisory Committee approved a change in name of the faculty to the UNSW Australia Business School, effective from 23 July 2014.     In 1998, as part of the UNSW 2000 restructuring process, a working party was set up to investigate a possible merger between the schools of Information, Library and Archive Studies and Information Systems (SRF - UNSW - SILAS). Following the report of that working party and upon recommendation of the Academic Board Council at its meeting on 7 June 1999 disestablished the two schools and as a concomitant action established the School of Information Systems, Technology and Management (resolution CL99/33 (c)). Enrolment numbers for the Library, Information Management and Archives and Records disciplinary areas fell in this newly established school and following a restructure in 2000 the Archives and Records and Audio Visual Archives courses were withdrawn and no longer on offer from 2001 onwards. A continued decline in student numbers saw a renewed restructuring of the school in 2005 and amongst other changes the discontinuation of the Information Management Program (the former Library program) from January 2006 as soon as practicable. In 2006 the School described its three areas of expertise: Information Systems (IS) involves the planning, analysis, design and maintenance of computerised systems used to process information in commerce, industry, government and research organisations. Information Technology (IT) is the underlying mechanism that controls these systems.     This series consists of the student resumes / yearbooks of the Australian Graduate School of Management. Each book contains profiles of all students within the graduating class of a particular year, usually including photographs. According to the 1978 issue, the books were producted to provide information on the background of students completing the Master's Program at the end of [this year and] to assist you in your search for qualified employees. From 1987 - 1993 the dating of the books was temporarily changed. Whereas previously the title of the book indicated the year that the students finished studying, during this period it was altered to the year a student's graduation ceremony was held. Consequently, there is no book titled 1987 and two different books titled for 1993, when the system was reversed again. In 1997 - 1998 separate resume booklets were produced entitled Student Resumes - Asian Region that included those students who have a particular interest in working in Asia. In 1999, following AGSM's amalgamation with the University of Sydney's Graudate School of Business, a separate resume book was produced for those students on the Newtown Campus, who were completing degrees begun at the Graduate School of Business in 1998. During 2006, the publications were re-named yearbooks. The dating also changed slightly to cover both Executive MBA students graduating at the end of a year and the full-time MBA students graduating early the following year. In 2009-10 the yearbook was released as a CD ROM only. The contents of the 2009-10 CD have also been copied to the network drive. From 2010-11 the yearbook was released as an online database only available on the Australian School of Business website (http://www.asb.unsw.edu.au/currentstudents/agsmmba/studentresources/careerservices/servicesforemployers/AGSMMBAyearbook/Pages/default.aspx ). A single pdf of all student CVs from the yearbook has been downloaded and stored in TRIM.

    On 14 February 1980 the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor R. E. Vowels, approved the establishment of the Industrial Relations Research Unit within the Department of Industrial Relations in the School of Economics in the Faculty of Commerce, as the result of a successful General Development Grant funding application. At the same time Professor John Niland was appointed as the Unit's first director. The main aim of the Unit was to help focus and stimulate industrial relations research in Australia (file 032680). At the 23 July 1980 meeting of the Vice-Chancellor's Advisory Committee, the Unit was redesignated the Industrial Relations Research Centre. In July 1985 the Vice-Chancellor established a committee to review the faculties of Commerce and Professional Studies. One of the recommendations of the working party which was chaired by the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ronayne, was that a new School of Industrial Relations and Organisational Behaviour comprising the present Department of Industrial Relations and the Organisational Behaviour Unit be established. At the Council meeting on 11 July 1988 major administrative changes were instituted including that certain departments within the existing schools within the faculty become schools in their own right. As a consequence, the Department of Industrial Relations and the Organisational Behaviour Unit were merged to become the newly formed School of Industrial Relations and Organisational Behaviour effective 1 August 1988. At the same time, Council altered the faculty's name to the Faculty of Commerce & Economics (resolution 88/90). The Centre thus became a part of the new school from this date. On 21 June 2004 Council resolved to disestablish the schools of Industrial Relations and Organisational Behaviour and International Business within the Faculty of Commerce and Economics and established a new school, the School of Organisation and Management (resolution CL04/81). The Centre was thus moved to the new school from this date. On 3 July 2006 Council proposed the amalgamation of the Faculty of Commerce and Economics and the Australian Graduate School of Management into the newly formed Faculty of Business and consequently the School of Organisation and Management, including the Industrial Relations Research Centre, became part of this faculty (resolution CL06/68). The inaugural meeting of the faculty took place on 23 November 2006, but by 18 June 2007 the name of the faculty was changed to the Australian School of Business at UNSW (Council resolution CL07/33).
