    As outlined in its first constitution dated 22 June 1992, Contact was a volunteer program which encourages the distribution of information among students, that is relevant to all non academic aspects of their life on campus. In the same document, the mission of the Centre was noted as: -a link between students and the services provided by the Students' Union, the University Union, the Student Services department of the university and other appropriate groups -a first port of call information service to students, in a user friendly and welcoming environment -a referral point for all services relevant to students -a feedback mechanism whereby student needs and problems are identified and referred appropriately -a means by which contact volunteers can learn about the university and work with other students, make friends and exchange ideas, thus increasing non-academic student participation at the university The Contact Committee was responsible for the organisation of Contact. It consisted of one representative from the each of the main contributing organisations - Students' Union, the University Union and the Student Services Department - three Contact volunteers and the Contact Co-ordinator, who was tasked with the daily running of Contact. The first Co-ordinator was Jan Hope. Contact began operations in August 1992, initially from a table on the Library Lawn. In October 1992 Contact moved to the Student Services huts, but by 1993 they had moved to the Central Lecture Block. In 1994, after the completion of the construction of the Quadrangle building, Contact was moved to this location. As a result of the move to a single student organisation, from 2007 Contact became a part of Arc. The 2014 Arc Annual Report (page 6) noted that "the end of 2014 also saw the decision to retire the Contact program". Contact therefore appears to have ceased operations from this time.     Description
    This series contains the log books / message books of Contact. The material is contained within bound books or pieces of paper that have been stapled together. They contain hand-written notes by Contact volunteers and the Contact Co-ordinator, in order to inform others about questions asked, absences and shortage of supplies. The Archives only holds items from some years of this series - it is unclear if the books were always kept by Contact.

    Description
    This series incorporates correspondence and related papers of Contact. The material is typed and contained in manilla folders, generally in chronological order. The correspondence contains information - mostly sent or received by the Contact Co-ordinator - on the establishment and organisation of Contact, including copies of its constitution, agreements, strategic planning information, website information and talks given by the Co-ordinator. 6 CDs are also contained within this series. Five of the CDs contain a powerpoint presentation, which have been printed out and placed in folder 5 of the series, as well as the contents being copied to the network drive. The sixth is a saved version of the Contact website from 2004, including photos and the contents has copied to the network drive, as well as the accessible parts being printed out and placed on folder 4.

    Description
    This series contains material relating to publicity generated for Contact in university publications, such as Tharunka, Blitz and Uniken. The material sometimes consists either of a photocopied piece or an entire publication, folded to the Contact publicity item. Where this series included a copy of Blitz not already held by the Archives, the Contact publicity item has been photocopied for this series and the original Blitz moved to series 517.     The Cornea & Contact Lens Research Unit began work as a unit within the School of Optometry in the Faculty of Science in 1976 and was formally established the following year. Its inaugural Director was Associate Professor B. Holden. The Unit carried out research projects with staff and students, employed research assistants from the School of Optometry from 1979, and provided programs in continuing and clinical education. On 8 August 1984 the Vice-Chancellor's Advisory Committee formally established the unit as a research centre within the university. The aim of the unit was to coordinate and develop postgraduate teaching and research projects in the area of the cornea and the role and effects of extraocular devices on the anterior eye (file 840739). At the 2 December, 1996 meeting of Council the Faculty of Science was disestablished effective 1 July, 1997 (resolution CL96/88/4). As a result, from this date the Cornea & Contact Lens Research Unit was transferred to the newly created Faculty of Science & Technology. On 18 June, 2001 Council resolved to disestablish the Faculty of Science & Technology and create a new single model Faculty of Science effective from 1 July, 2001 - including the Cornea & Contact Lens Research Unit. At the same meeting, the name of the school was changed to become the School of Optometry & Vision Science within the new faculty with effect from the same date (resolutions CL001/49 & CL001/50b). On 9 December 2003 the Cornea & Contact Lens Unit was disestablished by the Head of the School of Optometry & Vision Science (file 2004/0280-01).     This series contains manuals / handbooks of Contact. The material is typed and contained within bound books or pieces of paper that have been stapled together. They are instructional booklets about the various aspects of organising Contact, including operating manuals, volunteers' guides, training manuals and co-ordinator's handbooks.

    Description
    This series contains papers and minutes of the Contact Committee, responsible for the managing of the Contact student service. The material is typed and is maintained in manilla folders with documents generally arranged in chronological order. Minutes from 1994 - 1998 have also been signed and stuck into a separate book. The minutes indicate meeting date, time and place; those present and matters discussed by the Committee. The papers consist of reports or other submissions to be discussed by the Committee.

    Description
    This series consists of T-shirts of Contact. Each item in the series is a portion of a cloth T-shirt, as used by the Contact service. Note that all the T-shirts currently in this series are actually half shirts, as they were cut to be framed by Arc, but removed from these frames upon arrival in the Archives. Some of the half shirts have the other relevant half shirt, while others do not. All the shirts are undated but appear to cover the late 1990s - late 2000s period.
