    Description
    The creation of the Centre for Industrial Laser Applications was created within the Faculty of Science at the 16 April 1986 meeting of the Vice-Chancellor's Advisory Committee. The first director of the Centre was Dr George Paul. The disestablishment of the Centre, among a number of other inactive centres, was recommended at the 9 October 1991 meeting of the Vice-Chancellor's Advisory Committee.     Description
    The creation of the Centre for Petroleum Engineering Studies in the Faculty of Applied Science was endorsed at the 20 June 1984 meeting of the Vice-Chancellor's Advisory Committee. The main aim of the centre was to co-ordinate and develop teaching and research in the multi-disciplinary area of petroleum engineering. The initial director of the Centre was Associate Professor V. Pinczewski. At the 2 December 1996 meeting of Council the Faculty of Applied Science was disestablished effective 1 July 1997 (resolution CL96/88/4). As a result, from this date the Centre for Petroleum Engineering Studies was transferred to the Faculty of Engineering. On 1 June 1998 Council approved the creation of the School of Petroleum Engineering to replace the Centre effective forthwith (resolution CL98/41).     On 2 February 1987 Council approved the disestablishment of the Visiting Committees for the schools of Applied Geology and Mining Engineering. In their place was established a single Visiting Committee for the School of Mines (resolution 87/19). Visiting Committees were constituted under Resolution 68/137 of Council as a means of establishing a close liaison between industry and appropriate schools of the university. The Visiting Committee was comprised of distinguished members of the professional fields related to the school's activities. The Committee met annually and held its first meeting on 23 July 1987 with Mr A. C. Copeman in the Chair. Controlling Organisation: UNSW - 23/07/1987-

    On 10 December 1990 Council approved the creation of an independent department of Safety Science in the Faculty of Applied Science, effective from 1 January 1991. The department was based on the previous Centre for Safety Science, which was disestablished at the same time (resolution CL90/113). The first head of department was Professor Jean Cross. At the 2 December, 1996 meeting of Council the Faculty of Applied Science was disestablished effective 1 July, 1997 (resolution CL96/88/4). At the 3 February 1997 meeting of Council it was determined the Department of Safety Science would move to the newly created Faculty of Science & Technology from 1 July 1997 (resolution CL97/5a).     Description
    The School of Arts and Music Education was a former school of the St George Institute of the Sydney College of Advanced Education, which was incorporated into the university's Faculty of Professional Studies on 1 January 1990 as a result of the 13 April 1989 Memorandum of Agreement between the university and the college. The School was located on the St George campus (file 892015). The first head of school was Dr Peter Thursby. At the 29 March 1993 Council meeting, the school was re-named the School of Applied and Performing Arts (resolution CL93/15c). At the 2nd December, 1996 meeting of Council the Faculty of Professional Studies was disestablished effective 1st January, 1997 (resolution CL96/88/3).     Description
    The Food Industry Development Centre was established as the result of funding by the Australian Government as part of its Key Centres of Teaching & Research Program. This was formally announced by the government on 31 May 1988 and the creation of the Centre within the Department of Food Science & Technology in the School of Applied Bioscience, Faculty of Applied Science, was formally approved at the 14 September 1988 meeting of the Vice-Chancellor's Advisory Committee. The initial director of the Centre was Professor R. B. H. Wills (file 880435). Following a government review in May 1994, it was determined that funding for the Centre would cease at the end of 1995.     The Co-operative Research Centre for Food Industry Innovation was established as a result of funding from the Australian Government and began operations from 1 July 1993. The CRC was located within the Faculty of Applied Science and the inaugural director was Professor Noel Dunn (file 940598). At the 2 December 1996 meeting of Council the Faculty of Applied Science was disestablished effective 1 July 1997 (resolution CL96/88/4). As a result, from this date the Co-operative Research Centre for Food Industry Innovation was transferred to the Faculty of Life Sciences. The CRC was officially closed on 30 June 2001, although the CRC's final Board meeting to approve final issues surrounding its closure was held on 3 December 2001 (file 2002/1035).     Description
    This series contains files relating to administration and exhibitions held at the Kudos Gallery, Paddington. The exhibition files may include Artists' application forms; media releases; attendance statistics; price lists and general correspondence about each exhibition catalogue. Some folders include CDs - the contents of these have also been copied to the network drive. Kudos Gallery opened on 23 September 1998 in Paddington. It was run by the Student Association of the College of Fine Arts. The objective of the Kudos Gallery was to facilitate the curation of exhibitions spanning across all schools, these being the School of Arts, School of Design and Applied Arts, School of Art History Theory, and School of Art Education. Representatives from each school formed committee members of Kudos Gallery Exhibition Committee. In 2007 Arc@UNSW became the new student organisation for Kensington and COFA campuses of the University of New South Wales. Arc@UNSW continued the administration of the Kudos Gallery. The records for this series post 2004 are very incomplete.

    On 28 November 1990 the Vice-Chancellor approved the initial proposal to establish the Centre for Minerals Engineering within the Faculty of Applied Science to take over much of the operations of the Department of Mineral Processing & Extractive Metallurgy. The final proposal for the Centre was then approved at the Vice-Chancellor's Advisory Committee meeting on 10 July 1991, before the Centre was finally formally approved by the Vice-Chancellor on 20 May 1992. The main aim of the Centre was co-ordinate and co-operate multi-school and multi-disciplinary teaching and research activities in mineral processing including extractive metallurgy within the Faculty of Applied Science. The first director of the Centre was Dr Tam Tran (file 911225). On 1 July 1997 the Acting Vice-Chancellor approved the disestablishment of the Centre effective from 30 Jun 1997 (file 911225).
