The material is typed and contains documents and correspondence regarding patents of the Environmental Biotechnology CRC Pty Ltd. The material has been separated into a number of manila folders according to the country in which the patent is being held. Due diligence was completed on 25 August 2014 by 'DLE'.

    Description
    On 9 September 1985 the School of Biological Technologies was created within the Faculty of Applied Science with effect from 1 January 1986 (Council resolution 85/96). It initially had two departments - the Department of Biotechnology and the Department of Food Science & Technology. The first head of school was Professor Ronald Edwards. On 11 July 1988 the school was renamed the School of Applied Bioscience (Council resolution 88/85). At the 2 December 1996 meeting of Council the Faculty of Applied Science was disestablished effective 1 July 1997 (resolution CL96/88/4). As a result, from this date the School of Applied Bioscience was transferred to the Faculty of Life Sciences. On 18 Jun, 2001 Council resolved to disestablish the Faculty of Life Sciences and create a new single model Faculty of Science effective from 1 July, 2001- including the School of Applied Bioscience (resolution CL001/49). On 8 October 2001 Council approved the disestablishment of the School of Applied Bioscience, as well as its two departments of Biotechnology and Food Science & Technology, effective 31 December 2001 (resolution CL001/84c).     On 8 July 1968 Council approved the creation of the Faculty of Biological Science effective from 1 July 1968 (resolution 68/108) - with microbiology becoming one of the first six schools within the faculty. At the 9 March 1987 meeting of Council the faculty's name was altered to the Faculty of Biological & Behavioural Sciences (resolution 87/31). On 5 November 1990 Council changed the name of the school to the School of Microbiology & Immunology (resolution CL90/95). At the 2 December 1996 meeting of Council the Faculty of Biological & Behavioural Sciences was disestablished effective 1 July 1997 (resolution CL96/88/4). As a result, from this date the School of Microbiology & Immunology was transferred to the Faculty of Life Sciences. On 18 Jun, 2001 Council resolved to disestablish the Faculty of Life Sciences and create a new single model Faculty of Science effective from 1 July, 2001 - including the School of Microbiology & Immunology (resolution CL001/49). On 8 October 2001 Council approved the disestablishment of the School of Microbiology & Immunology in order to form a School of Biotechnology & Biomolecular Sciences effective from 1 January 2002 (resolution CL001/84). At the same time the Department of Biochemistry was redesignated the School of Biochemistry and became one of the first six schools within the new faculty. The first head of school was Professor E. O. Thompson. At the 9th March, 1987 meeting of Council the faculty's name was altered to the Faculty of Biological & Behavioural Sciences (resolution 87/31). On 5 August 1991 the school was re-named the School of Biochemistry & Molecular Genetics (resolution CL91/50). At the 2 December 1996 meeting of Council the Faculty of Biological & Behavioural Sciences was disestablished effective 1 July 1997 (resolution CL96/88/4). As a result, from this date the School of Biochemistry & Molecular Genetics was transferred to the Faculty of Life Sciences. On 18 Jun, 2001 Council resolved to disestablish the Faculty of Life Sciences and create a new single model Faculty of Science effective from 1 July, 2001- including the School of Biochemistry & Molecular Genetics (resolution CL001/49). On 8 October 2001 Council approved the disestablishment of the School of Biochemistry & Molecular Genetics, effective 31 December 2001 in order to form a new School of Biotechnology & Biomolecular Sciences (resolution CL001/84c).     Description
    The Department of Biological Process Engineering was established within the School of Chemical Engineering in the Faculty of Applied Science at the 28 February 1968 meeting of the Vice-Chancellor's Advisory Committee. The first head of the department was Associate Professor G. H. Roper. On 12 November 1979 Council resolved to merge the School of Chemical Engineering with the School of Chemical Technology (resolution 79/157). As a result, the department became a part of the School of Chemical Engineering & Industrial Chemistry effective from 1 January 1980. On 9 September 1985, following a review of the science/engineering disciplines, Council dissolved the department as an independent unit and moved its members of staff to the newly redesignated Department of Biotechnology effective from 1 January 1986 (resolution 85/96ci).     The Faculty of Biological Sciences was created in principle by Council on 22nd January, 1968 (resolution 68/19i). At its 8th July, 1968 meeting, Council then approved the formal operation of the Faculty from 1st July, 1968 (resolution 68/108). Initially administered by Dean Professor B. J. Ralph, the Faculty commenced life with six Schools - Applied Psychology, Biochemistry, Biological Technology, Botany, Microbiology and Zoology. The Faculty met for the first time on 29th July, 1968. At the 9th March, 1987 meeting of Council the Faculty's name was altered to the Faculty of Biological & Behavioural Sciences (resolution 87/31). Finally, on 2nd December, 1996, Council disestablished the Faculty of Biological & Behavioural Sciences, effective 1st July, 1997 (resolution CL96/88/4).     Acyte Biotech Pty Ltd was the commercialisation agent of research of mammalian cell production of recombinant DNA derived proteins. The underlying research is from the work of Professor Peter Gray and his team. Acyte was established on 14 June 2000 and Unisearch Ltd supported it with a Convertible Note. Warren Bradey was the sole director until December 2001. 2002 was the first fully operational year of Acyte. [UNSW Annual Report 2002] Acyte’s product worked around two platform technologies, expression systems and autocrine growth, the former having CHO cells and the latter SuperCHO cells. [Item 3, Minutes of the Acyte Pty Ltd Board of Directors 14 November 2002] Their financial support to develop these technologies included three Biotechnology Innovation Fund (BIF) grants and a number of industry research collaborations. When the CRC for Biopharmaceutical Research Pty Ltd was liquidated in 2002, the intellectual property related to the CHO technologies were assigned to UNSW, who then assigned them to Unisearch, who then licensed them to Acyte. Negotations with University of Queensland and Uniquest Pty Ltd began in 2005, and a Memorandum of Understanding was signed in December. Uniquest entered into a consultancy agreement in exchange for equity in Acyte. The company went into a dormant state in 2006 for a period, cutting contracts and expenses until Uniquest substantially invested and the company was relocated to Queensland.     The Department of Biochemical Engineering appears to have been created as the result of a reorganisation of the Department of Biochemistry (located in the School of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Science) following the appointment of the second professor of biochemistry, Professor E. O. P. Thompson, by Council on 24 January 1966 (resolution 66/3). Professor Thompson took up duties on 1 August 1966 and the department came into existence shortly afterwards (V273, file 00020411 - CN1160/209), with Professor B. J. Ralph as its first head. On 8 July 1968 Council approved the creation of the Faculty of Biological Science effective from 1 July 1968 (resolution 68/108). At the same time the department was redesignated the School of Biological Technology and became one of the first six schools within the new faculty.
