    At a marketing conference in Canberra in June 1962, P J A Fabricus, Marketing Director, Unilever Australia Pty Ltd, proposed that a chair in Marketing be established at an Australian university. This proposal was debated within the University of NSW and at a meeting of the Executive Committee of Council on 17 December 1962 it was decided that a Chair in Marketing should be established within the School of Business Administration so long as the necessary funds could be found from amongst the business community. In April 1963 a Committee was formed, chaired by Mr Warren McDonald, Chairman of the Commonwealth Banking Corporation, with the aim of raising 60,000 pounds. This was achieved during August 1963 (SRF - Marketing) and on 11 November 1963 Council approved the establishment of a Chair in Marketing in the School of Business Administration within the Faculty of Commerce (resolution 63/194). In March 1965 Professor J B Schneider, formerly Chair of Marketing at San Francisco State College, was appointed as the inaugural Chair (resolution 65/5). On 24 January 1966 Council approved the establishment of a Department of Marketing within the Faculty of Commerce (resolution 66/24). In 1966 the university introduced a more comprehensive program in marketing of three courses for those in business and government already engaged in all aspects of marketing, marketing research and related fields. The program consisted of one part time course and two short residential courses. (SRF - Marketing) In March 1967 Professor Schneider resigned after only two years service and returned to the US. (SRF - Marketing) Roger Layton, Senior Lecturer in Economics, had been appointed Professor of Marketing within the Faculty of Commerce (resolution 66/183) in November of the previous year. A marketing specialisation within the Bachelor of Commerce degree was taught for the first time in 1967 (UNSW Calendar 1967 B208-9; UNSW Calendar 1968 B 166-7). On 11 May 1970 as part of the administrative arrangements necessary for the establishment of the Institute of Social Research, the Department of Marketing was re-designated as the School of Marketing (resolution 70/75 (viii)). At a meeting of the Professorial Board on 1 April 1975 it was resolved that the Department of Behavioural Science, formerly situated with the Graduate School of Business, be placed within the School of Marketing (resolution of Professorial Board 75/40). However just over a year later on 14 July 1976 the Vice-Chancellor's Advisory Committee decided that the department should be removed from the School of Marketing and designated as a separate unit within the Faculty of Commerce (S261; UNSW Annual Report 1976: 10). During 1988 approval was given for a double major in Marketing and Hospitality Management within the BCom. The first group of students were enrolled in 1989. The course was designed to meet the demand for managers in the hotel, resort, and restaurant industries (UNSW Annual Report 1988: 35). On 18 June 2007 Council noted the renaming of the Faculty of Business to the Australian School of Business at UNSW, as approved by the Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor and President of the Academic Board (CL07/33). On 2 July 2014 the Vice-Chancellor's Advisory Committee approved a change in name of the faculty to the UNSW Australia Business School, effective from 23 July 2014.     The Board of Vocational Studies was formed at the 12th September, 1960 meeting of Council (resolution 60/132). Under Council resolution 60/132iii it was determined that the Board should supervise teaching, provide assistance to examiners and conduct research in those subjects that were nominated as coming under its auspices. Professor R. H. Myers was appointed the first Chairman of the Board and its inaugural meeting took place on 22nd September, 1960. Under Council resolution 64/223 at their meeting on 9th November, 1964, the functions of a Higher Degree Committee were also given to the Board. At the meeting of Council on 11th May, 1970 (resolution 70/74i) resolution 60/132 was rescinded and the Board re-constituted. Under Council resolution 70/74ii the Board was given the power to act as a faculty in regard to the course in Wool Technology (Education option) and all courses provided by the Schools of Education, Social Work, Librarianship, Health Administration and the Department of Industrial Arts. As well, it was determined that Chapter IV of the University By-Laws would now apply to the Board (resolution 70/74iii). This resulted in the establishment of an Executive Committee. On 12th November, 1973 Council changed the name of the Board to the Board of Professional Studies (resolution 73/231). A year later, on 11th November, 1974, Council approved the reconstitution of the Board into the Faculty of Professional Studies from 20th January 1975 (resolution 74/227). Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor A. H. Willis was appointed Acting Dean of the Faculty. At the 2nd December, 1996 meeting of Council the Faculty of Professional Studies was disestablished effective 1st January, 1997 (resolution CL96/88/3).     Following the establishment of a Centre for Biomedical Engineering within the University an Advisory Committee to oversee the overall operating policy of the Centre was established in 1977 with the following membership: a) the Vice-Chancellor or his nominee b) fifteen nominees from appropriate schools in the faculties of Applied Science, Biological Sciences, Engineering, Medicine and Science. c) six nominees from the teaching and associated hospitals of the University d) up to six nominees from bodies outside the University with an interest in the activities of the Centre e) the Director of the Centre ex-officio Members of the Committee were appointed by the Vice- Chancellor to serve for a period of two years, with provision for renewal of membership. The Committee was to meet twice a year in March and September. Its first meeting was held on 15 March 1977. The Chair was the Vice-Chancellor's nominee, the registrar KL Jennings. At the second meeting of the Board on 19 Sep 1977, Resolution 77/1 described its role as follows: 1) to advise the Vice-Chancellor and Principal regarding the composition of the Management Committee of the Centre 2) to review and make recommendations concerning the policies and objectives of the Centre with particular regard to the following: *to advise the Centre in respect to priorities of both long and short term programmes; *to make recommendations regarding the integration of fund raising activities; *to evaluate and advise on needs in the community as appropriate to the work of the Centre; *to review and make recommendations on the academic content of courses at various levels; and *to promote public relations and provide information and education in respect of biomedical engineering In August 1981 letters of invitation went out for renewal of membership of the Board from 1 September 1981 to 31 August 1984.
