    In the first edition of the Club's Red Thor bulletin, it was noted that under the Club's provisional Manifesto the Communist Club supports the exercising of decisive political, economic and social power by the people through a system of self-manager worker's councils and communal bodies, subject to recall and a whole range of direct democratic processes, the widest freedom of speech, association, religion, artistic expression, travel, strike and other democratic rights.

    Description
    On 6 December 1994 the Academic Board recommended that the Vice-Chancellor approve the creation of a Centre for Franchise Studies in the Department of Legal Studies and Taxation within the Faculty of Commerce and Economics (resolution AB94/117). This recommendation was approved by the Vice-Chancellor on 16 December 1994. The first Director of the Centre was Associate Professor Andrew Terry. The main aim of the Centre was to coordinate multi-disciplinary teaching, research and networking activities...[to] support Australian franchise development (file 941322). On 5 June 1995 Council approved a change in name and status for the Department of Legal Studies and Texation. Thus the Centre became part of the School of Business Law and Taxation from this date (resolution CL95/40).     Description
    On 24 May 2006 the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) approved the establishment of the City Futures Research Centre (file 2006/0920). On 4 July 2006 the Academic Board noted the Centre's establishment, which was effective immediately (resolution AB06/60). Its main purpose was to develop a better understanding of our cities, their people, the policies that manage their growth, the issues they face and the impacts they make on our society, environment and economy. The Centre was located in the Faculty of the Built Environment with Professor Bill Randolph as its first director (file 2006/0920).     On 10 July 1996 a Memorandum of Understanding agreement was signed that enabled the creation of the Centre for Sensory Research. The main aim of the Centre was to concentrate multi-disciplinary skills upon the scientific study of the chemical senses of humans and animals and apply this knowledge to solve technical, economic and social problems. Shortly afterwards the Centre appears to have become known as the Centre for Chemosensory Research (CCR). The Centre was attached equally to the faculties of Science, Biological & Behavioural Sciences and Medicine and commenced operations on 1 February 1997 with Associate Professor Graham Bell as the first director (file 961285). The Centre's facilities at Australian Technology Park opened in April 1997 (file 972357). At the 2 December 1996 meeting of Council the faculties of Science and Biological & Behavioural Sciences were disestablished effective 1 July 1997 (resolution CL96/88/4). As a result, from this date the Centre was transferred jointly to the faculties of Life Sciences, Medicine and Science & Technology. On 18 June, 2001 Council resolved to disestablish the faculties of Life Sciences and Science & Technology and create a new single model Faculty of Science effective from 1 July, 2001 (resolution CL001/49). Thus from this date the Centre was academically administered by the faculties of Science and Medicine. On 13 January 2003 the Acting Vice-Chancellor approved the disestablishment of the Centre for Chemosensory Research forthwith. This was finalised effective from 1 February 2003 (file 2004/1514).     This series consists of the student publications of Politik @ UNSW. Each item contains student produced articles. In the first issue it was noted that "Politik will be a canvas for students and academics to paint a multidimensional picture of the world as they see it. International affairs is the nexus at which key disciplines overlap, and in this spirit, Politik will explore not only the issues facing the major regions of the world, but also the contemporary challenges posed to global science, the environment, health, business and economics."

    Description
    The creation of the Centre for Banking and Finance within the Faculty of Commerce and Economics was endorsed at the 21 September 1988 meeting of the Vice-Chancellor's Advisory Committee. The mission of the Centre was working within the academic community to improve understanding of the manner in which financial markets operate and to enable the School of Banking and Finance in UNSW to continue to maintain academic leadership in this area. The Centre, however, remained inactive until 12 August 1991, when the Vice-Chancellor approved a change in name to the National Centre for Banking and Capital Markets. At the same time the Centre's first director, Professor R. J. Bowden, was officially appointed (file 881231). On 29 October 1997 the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) approved the change of name of the Centre to the Asia Pacific Financial Research Centre. On 2 December 1997 this was also endorsed by the Academic Board (resolution AB97/169). On 13 January 2003 the Acting Vice-Chancellor approved the disestablishment of the Centre.     In March 1973 the Department of Legal Studies and Taxation was established within the School of Accountancy in the Faculty of Commerce, as a result of the school's decision to create a four department structure (file 950718, V480). The first head of department was Dr A. W. Lacey. As a result of a review of the Faculty of Commerce, on 11 July 1988 Council altered the faculty's name to the Faculty of Commerce & Economics effective 1 August 1988. At the same time the department was separated from the School of Accountancy and became an independent unit within the faculty (resolution CL88/90). On 5 June 1995 Council approved a change in name and status for the department and thus the School of Business Law and Taxation replaced the department from this date (resolution CL95/40).     Description
    The creation of the Centre for Business Information Technology (CBIT) within the Faculty of Commerce and Economics was approved at the 7 September 1988 meeting of the Vice-Chancellor's Advisory Committee. The Centre does not, however, appear to have become active until 1990, when Mr Rodger Jamieson became its director. Around the same time the name of the Centre appears to have been changed to the Information Technology Research Centre and its main aim given as to encourage and stimulate research in the fields of information technology primarily in the development of information systems (file 881230). On 24 October 1997 the Vice-Chancellor approved a recommendation that the Centre was disestablished effective from 1 October 1997 (file 860992). Controlling Organisation: UNSW - 07/09/1988-01/10/1997
