    This series contains exhibition catalogues and other files relating to administration of exhibiitions held at or administered by the City Art Institute / College of Fine Arts / Faculty of Art and Design, including student exhibitions and exhibitions that resulted from interactions between the Institute/College and other organisations. Although a small number of individual program graduating student exhibition catalogues are included in this series, the annual whole of College/Faculty graduating student exhibition catalogues are held in S2702, while the Bachelor of Design graduand exhibition programs are in S1025. This series does not cover any exhibitions held in the Ivan Doughtery, Arthaus, Arthous Too, Works, COFA, Kudos Galleries or UNSW Galleries - exhibitions in these galleries have their own separate series at S2703, S1802, S1803, S2571, S1820 and S2704.

    At Council's 14 November 1960 meeting - as a result of the Student Failure and Wastage Survey - it approved the recommendations of the Personnel Sub-Committee from 8 November 1960, which included the establishment of a Statistics Section attached to the Examinations Branch within the Division of the Registrar to provide statistics as required and to develop a machine processing organisation to serve all administrative units (resolution 60/152). The university's first Statistics Officer was R. R. Maloney, who was appointed on 16 October 1961 (Personnel Sub-Committee 12 December 1961 meeting). When the Division of the Registrar was restructured in 1981, the Statistics Section was moved into the newly formed Data Processing & Statistics Office, which reported to the Head of the Management Services Branch and Deputy Registrar, P. J. Wildblood. As part of a major administrative restructure that took place in July 1985 (SRF - Statistics), the Planning Services Department was created within the Division of the Deputy Principal (Planning & Information) with staff from the Statistics Section and from November 1985 they were managed by Terry Hand. At the time it was noted that the Department was responsible for supporting the development and maintenance of a planning process which regularly reviews the University's uses of its resources, examines and proposes alternatives in the context of long range goals (1985 UNSW Annual Report, p 71). On 1 September 1990 the Department was re-designated the Planning Services Office and transferred to the direction of the newly appointed Pro-Vice-Chancellor Tony Wicken (Focus 10 August 1990, UNSW 1990 Annual Report, p 174). From 16 September 1991 this position became known as the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs) (Focus 23 August 1991). The title of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor's position was changed to Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the Council meeting on 4 November 1991. In the Working Party Report on Chancellery Services & Administrative Support Technology Report released on 10 July 1997 it was recommended that the functions of the Planning Services Department and Corporate Planning & Quality Development Office be brought together. Approval for this move was given at the 8 October 1997 meeting of the Executive Group, with it becoming known as the Planning Office and reporting to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Development). From 1 February 2000 the Planning Office reported to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Planning & Resources) (SRF - Organisation & Management). At the 4 April 2001 Executive Group meeting the name of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Planning & Resources) was changed to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education & Enterprise) and from 16 April 2003 it became the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International & Education) (file 2003/0773). From 7 January 2004 the name of this position was altered to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International) (SRF - Organisation & Management). At the 21 April 2004 Senior Management Group meeting the name of the Office was changed to the Institutional Analysis and Reporting Office, reporting to the Division of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic). In 2007 the Office's website noted that it liaises with faculties and the Senior Management Group for student enrolment planning, prepares the University Enrolment Plan, and coordinates the preparation of the University's Institution Assessment Framework submission to the Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST). Other tasks undertaken by the office include: formulation, conduct and reporting on a range of student and staff surveys relating to the quality assurance initiatives of the University; development of measures of performance; analysis of UAC data to support the admissions and planning processes; ad hoc analyses and reporting of student and staff data to assist the Executive and the Deans in management decision-making, and; preparation of student load data for input to the University's annual budget estimates and mid-year adjustments. By at least January 2014, the Office was merged with the Data Governance Unit to form the new Business Reporting and Intelligence and Data Governance Unit (BRIDG) within the Division of Finance and Operations.     The position of Director was established by the Technical Education & New South Wales University of Technology Act, 1949, which came into effect on 1st July, 1949 (Act No. 11, 1949) and Arthur Denning was first appointed to this post (Council meeting 6th July, 1949, resolution 2). Under part 5 of the University Regulations, it was designated that: 1.The Director shall be the chief executive officer of the Council and shall be specially charged with the duty of promoting the interests and furthering the development of the University. 2.The Director shall, under the Council, subject to the by-law and to any resolution of the Council - a) manage and supervise the administrative, financial and other activities of the University b) consult with and advise the Professorial Board, and all other University Boards, Faculties, Committees, Professors and other Heads of Departments c) exercise supervision over the discipline of the University, with power, in the case of students, to impose penalties in accordance with academic usage for breach of discipline or for misconduct of any kind d) give effect to the by-laws and to any resolution or report passed or adopted by Council e) perform such other duties as may time to time be assigned to him by the Council At first the Directorship was not a full-time position and all administration was run by the Department of Technical Education, which meant that the Director had few staff directly assisting him in the conduct of University business. From 1st January, 1953, however, the position of Director was made full-time (Council meeting 10th November, 1952, resolution 255a), with Professor J. P. Baxter taking up this role (Council meeting 8th December, 1952, resolution 259). On 1st July, 1954 the University was also given its autonomy from the Department, resulting in the creation of the Administration within the University (Council meeting 10th May, 1954, resolution 427-3a). From 4th March, 1955 the position of Director was replaced by that of Vice-Chancellor, under the Technical Education & New South Wales University of Technology (Amendment) Act (No. 8, 1955). It is unclear as to exactly when those staff directly assisting the Vice-Chancellor became known as the Vice-Chancellor's Unit. On 9th May, 1960, however, Council created the position of Administrative Officer, Vice-Chancellor's Unit (resolution 60/34), indicating that the Unit must have been in existence by this point. Following a review of the Central Administration, the Vice-Chancellor's Unit became the Vice-Chancellor's Division from 1st January, 1988. By 1995 this had been altered again to the Office of the Vice-Chancellor. In August, 2004 the Vice-Chancellor was Professor Mark Wainwright, with the Office of the Vice-Chancellor consisting of seven other staff members.     A proposal to establish a diploma in Librarianship at the university was first submitted for consideration to the NSW University of Technology by John Metcalfe, Principal Librarian at the Public Library of NSW in 1954. [SRF - SILAS etc] Other requests were received from the Library Association of Australia, the Library Board of NSW, and the Trustees of the Public Library of NSW. (The University of New South Wales c. 1961: 84) At the time qualifications in librarianship were obtained by completing the Library Association of Australia's examination by correspondence [Clinch, M, S Wilson and P Wood. Administrative History of the School of Librarianship University of New South Wales 1960 - 1975: 2 99A103/Box 17] At a Council meeting on 10 Nov 1958 John Metcalfe was invited to accept the position of University Librarian at the University of NSW. (resolution 58/149) His duties would involve being responsible for the organisation and management of the University's library services and the establishment and supervision of such courses in library training as may be approved by the university. Metcalfe was also made a member of the Professorial Board. Metcalfe commenced duty on 2 February 1959. (BRF - Metcalfe) Immediately after taking up his appointment as University Librarian, Metcalfe made submissions regarding library education at the university to the Professorial Board. At the Council meeting of 13 July 1959 approval was given for a graduate diploma course in Librarianship (resolution 59/123). Metcalfe was appointed as Director of the School as well as continuing his role as University Librarian. The School of Librarianship was located within the Faculty of Arts and offered courses leading to the Diploma in Librarianship for the first time in March 1960. This made it the first school of librarianship in a tertiary institution in Australia. [SRF - UNSW - School of Information, Library & Archive Studies (SILAS)] John Metcalfe retired as University Librarian in May 1966 but remained as Director of the School of Librarianship until 1968. On his retirement he was succeeded by Wilma Radford who was appointed foundation professor of librarianship and head of school. [SRF - UNSW - SILAS] Administratively the School was placed with the Board of Vocational Studies from 1971 until 1974, with the Board of Professional Studies during 1974, and with the Faculty of Professional Studies from 1975. New programs were introduced in 1964 (Master of Librarianship by research), 1972 (Master of Librarianship by coursework) 1973 (Diploma in Archives Administration) and 1980 (Master of Archives Administration by research). [SRF - UNSW - SILAS] The Diploma in Archives Administration was designed to provide education in the principles and methods of the administration of archives and manuscripts, and various aspects of current records management. A major course revision in 1981, which introduced a common core of subjects for both the librarianship and archives diploma students, saw the diplomas renamed Diploma in Information Management - Librarianship and Diploma in Information Management - Archives Administration. (Clinch et al: 2) At a meeting on 23 March 1992 Council approved the change of name of the School of Librarianship to the School of Information, Library and Archive Studies. [resolution CL92/16] On 2 December 1996 Council resolved to dissolve the Faculty of Professional Studies from 1 January 1997 with the School of Information, Library and Archive Studies being transferred to the Faculty of Commerce and Economics. [resolution CL96/88/3; Uniken 6 Dec 1996: 4] In 1997 approval was given for a third academic stream within the School, this time in audiovisual management. This was primarily an internet-based program which was developed through a partnership between the university and the National Film and Sound Archive in Canberra. [SRF - UNSW - SILAS] During 1998 as part of the UNSW 2000 planning exercise discussions were held with the School of Information Systems about the feasibility of a merger. Following the receipt of a report by a working party headed by Professor W Boyd Rayward, members of staff of the School of Information, Library and Archive Studies voted to pursue a merger. [SRF - UNSW - SILAS] At a Council meeting on 7 June 1999 the School of Information Systems and the School of Information, Library and Archive Studies were formally disestablished and a new school to be known as the School of Information Systems, Technology and Management was established.     This series consists of agendas, papers and copies of minutes of the Board of Management of the Institute of Administration. Documents are typed and are arranged in chronological order in folders. For each meeting, a copy of the minutes for that meeting normally appears first, followed by the agenda and any attached papers that were circulated to members along with the agenda prior to the meeting. The agendas show the issues that were to be addressed, while the papers consist of reports or other submissions that were to be discussed by the Committee. The official signed minutes for the Board are maintained in series 112.

    Description
    This series contains the official signed minutes of the Board of Management of the Institute of Administration. The material is typed and arranged in folders in chronological order. The minutes indicate meeting date, time and place; those present and apologies; matters discussed and resolutions passed by the Board. The minutes for each meeting have been signed as approved by the Chair of the Board at a subsequent Board meeting. The University Archives' holdings of this series are very incomplete as there are many meetings that the Archives does not hold minutes for. Copies of minutes, as well as the Board's agendas and papers, can be located in series 113.

    This series consists of the official administrative files of the Alexander Mackie College / Alexander Mackie College of Advanced Education. Each item consists of a number of paper sheets or brochures contained in an official file folder. The files have been created by the central administrative of the college and relate to all manner of college business, including property, courses, schools, finance, marketing, media and research. The files are arranged in file number order. The majority of the files held by the Archives are from the 1975 - 1981 period. It is unclear exactly when in the College's history that the files first started to be kept.
