    Description
    This series consists of minutes, agendas and papers of the Planning & Development Committee of the Board of Studies in Science & Mathematics. The material is typed and maintained in chronological order in a manila folder. This series is kept in the same folder as series 168 and 169, as this was the manner in which the material was arranged when it was transferred to the University Archives. Paper dividers have been placed in the folder by the Archives to indicate the different series contained within. The minutes indicate meeting date, time and place; those present and apologies; matters discussed and resolutions passed by the Committee. The Archives only holds minutes for a small number of Committee meetings, but all minutes are the official versions that have been signed by the Chairman. Minutes for the 1979 meeting of this Committee are held with series 5, folder seven.

    Description
    This series consists of the Faculty Policy and Information Book for the Board of Studies in Science and Mathematics, as released by the Registrar's Division. The material is typed and maintained in a manilla folder and covers the policies and procedures for the Faculty. Individual pages of the book were replaced whenever a new policy was released, so it covers a variety of time periods.

    On 27 June 1994 Council gave its approval for a Bachelor of Aviation degree to be offered jointly by the faculties of Professional Studies and Engineering, as well as the Board of Studies in Science & Mathematics (resolution CL94/52c), with the course to begin operations from 1995 (file 940529). On 31 October 1994 Council established the Department of Aviation within the Board of Studies in Science & Mathematics (resolution CL94/86b). The inaugural Head of Department was Professor Jason Middleton. At the 2 December, 1996 meeting of Council the Department of Aviation was transferred to the newly created Faculty of Science & Technology effective from 1 July 1997 (resolution CL96/88/4). On 18 June, 2001 Council resolved to disestablish the Faculty of Science & Technology and create a new single model Faculty of Science effective from 1 July, 2001 - including the Department of Aviation (resolution CL001/49). On 2 November 2010 the Academic Board recommended that the Chancellor, Vice Chancellor and President of Academic Board approve the proposal to establish a School of Aviation, (replacing the Department of Aviation) effective 1 January 2011 (resolution AB10/112).     Description
    The second Faculty of Science was established at the 18 June, 2001 meeting of Council (resolution CL001/49) effective 1 July 2001, as a result of the disestablishment of the Faculty of Life Science and the Faculty of Science and Technology. Professor Merilyn Sleigh was appointed as Interim Dean. In 2013 the faculty, under Dean Professor Merlin Crossley, encompassed nine schools and eighteen centres.     The membership of the Examinations Committee was established at the 20th March, 1974 meeting of the Board of Studies in Science (resolution 74/7). At the same meeting under resolution 74/9i it was determined that the Committee meets prior to, as well as at the normal scheduled examinations meetings to determine ways of improving the examinations process. Under Chairman Professor R. M. Golding, the Committee met for the first time on 17th May, 1974. The Examinations Committee appears to have been replaced by an Assessment Committee at a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Board of Studies in Science & Mathematics on 11 June, 1980 (resolution 80/48).     On 10 June 1970 the Vice-Chancellor's Advisory Committee approved the creation of a Visiting Committee for the Department of Statistics. Visiting Committees were constituted under Resolution 68/137 of Council as a means of establishing a close liaison between industry and appropriate schools of the university. The Visiting Committee was comprised of distinguished members of the professional fields related to the department's activities. The Committee met annually and held its first meeting on 1 September 1970 with Mr R. W. Rutledge in the Chair. On 15 June 1977 the Vice-Chancellor's Advisory Committee approved the establishment of a Visiting Committee for the School of Mathematics. As this was intended to partially replace the Visiting Committee for the Department of Statistics, this Committee ceased to exist from that date.     This series contains the handbooks of the Faculty of Science / Faculties of Biological Science and Science / Sciences / Science. Unlike all other faculty handbooks, this series contains a combination of faculty / board courses - at various times including the courses of the Faculty of Science, Faculty of Biological Science, Board of Studies in Science / Science & Mathematics, Faculty of Life Sciences and the Faculty of Science & Technology. Each item is a typed, paper-bound volume, which were released on a yearly basis and contains information about the courses available in the faculty, including subject descriptions. Prior to 1960, some of this information had been contained in the university calendar. From 1976 copies of the handbook are also included in the bound versions of the university calendar. From 2002 this series of faculty handbooks were replaced by a new series of Undergraduate and Postgraduate handbooks.

    The Faculty of Science & Technology was created by Council on 2nd December, 1996 effective from 1st July 1997 (resolution CL96/88/4a). The inaugural meeting of the Faculty was on 8th July, 1997 with Associate Professor A. H. Dooley as the Presiding Member. At this time, under Dean Colin Sutherland, the Faculty contained six schools, four departments, three Centres, the Universities' Surface Analysis Facility and the Cornea and Contact Lens Research Unit. The Faculty of Science & Technology was disestablished by Council on 18th June, 2001 effective from July 2001 (resolution CL001/49). The final meeting of the Faculty Board was held on 26th April, 2001.
