    Description
    Honours & Graduate Diploma by Research Guides of the School of Politics and International Relations, that appear to have been released on an annual basis. Each booklet contains information on the honours and graduate diploma programs, including advice and details about the school and courses available for students. The Archives' holdings of the series are incomplete.

    The first two Lecturers in Politics - Ruth Atkins and Terry Hague - were appointed in 1952 within the then School of Humanities & Social Sciences. Together they formed the Department of Government, but Terry Hague left soon afterwards and Ruth Atkins was the sole lecturer in the subject for most of the 1950s, though her task at this time was only to provide general education courses for the University's various undergraduate degree programs. General education courses were compulsory courses in the humanities for all undergraduate students. At the beginning of 1960 the Faculty of Arts was formed and at that time the Department of Government became the School of Political Science (Council 9 November 1959, 59/204).     In 1997 the Social Relations of Disability Research Network was created by a group of academics working in universities in the Sydney area. Its prime instigator was Ms Helen Meekosha, who obtained the first government funding for the project 1 July 1997, although work had started from April of that year. Its goals were: -to stimulate the development of scholarship in New South Wales and more widely in Australia, which was cross disciplinary and which focussed on social, cultural and political issues in the field of disability and -to facilitate the professional involvement and development of researchers and scholars with disabilities, in the field of disability studies. Based at the School of Social Work, within the Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences, the network began initially with a grant from the Commonwealth Government's Research Council and then continued with the resources from the Vice Chancellors of UNSW, UTS and UWS. The network held monthly seminars and an annual conference (file 972006). In 2001 the Network entered a partnership with a number of disability sector organisations to establish the Disability Studies & Research Institute (DSARI), which was incorporated in June 2002. During 2003 the educational activities of the Network were incorporated into DSARI, located at People with Disabilities in Australia, an external body, although the Network's seminar program continued to be organised by the university's School of Social Work (file 2003/0490).
